Long story short… I am a simple country girl at heart and love sewing, crocheting, painting, drawing and being outside. As much as I love the hot weather, you can always catch me taking a little walk in the rain, then eating an ice cream sundae while cuddled up with hot chocolate on days without sun. Hmmm, you want the whole story???
My name is Monique Schumann (Soon-to-Be Mrs. McLaughlin!) I am a Sign Language Interpreter, crafter, painter, artist, and dabble in the kitchen with different recipes for cooking and baking when I get the chance. I try to be like my mom a lot and be the same amazing cook and still Miracle Worker Mom with my crocheting and painting skills and knowing EVERYTHING about every one/thing! I know, I know, I don’t have human kids just yet, so I’m a little head of the game with Miracle Worker Mom, but I am a proud momma of two little Chi-Weenie pups (they are my first babies). They are Chihuahua – Mini Dachshund mixes and I cannot get enough of them. When I’m not playing around with the pups or interpreting or in the kitchen trying to find something that my fiance and I will BOTH enjoy (tougher than it sounds..), I am wrapped up in my crafting!
Love Unique Monique began with simple hand crocheted goodies. I learned to crochet as a little girl and I really got into it when I moved out and started finding hobbies to pass my time. When that winter weather was upon us in 2013, I made different ear warmers and a big crocheted wool blanket to cuddle up with on the couch. Of course my fiance fell in love with that blanket and it is now “his” blanket. Anyway, those little projects grew into boot cuffs and baby blankets for my friends’ new little kiddos. Because of all the great reactions and even requests for my products, I thought about selling my work. With a little encouraging support of my family, friends and fiance, I pursued my first ever online store with Etsy – Love Unique Monique.
I don’t just crochet ear warmers, but I do so much more! Boot cuffs, headbands, scarves (for humans and doggies), and even baby booties. I also found a new hobby of charcoal drawing in these last few months. I charcoal all Disney characters (as my Fan Art) and I am not one to keep my own pieces. I want to share my passion and artwork with others. I also sew up a storm with my fiancé’s late Grandma’s Singer. It is one of the original models of Singer – so awesome! I don’t mean to brag but I do love this machine. It is just another support to continuing to share my crafts with others for as long as I can.
I try to use my own patterns for everything I make, but I will admit that I find inspiration from the creativity of many other talented crafters out there. I look at Pinterest, Google, Crochet Me and even magazines and books in the local grocery store, each one giving me ideas and new ways to mesh different patterns and styles together to get a new unique look. I do not follow “exact” directions to patterns but simply use the basis of two or more patterns to make something one-of-a-kind. That is Love Unique Monique.
